A MAJOR Tyneside-based insurer is supporting a local charity in providing practical help to vulnerable families in the North-East.

Employees at marine insurance specialists North P&I – based on Newcastle’s Quayside – have rallied to donate much-needed toys, clothes, books and other essential items to Clothe and Feed, the region’s largest baby bank.

With the rising cost of living impacting many across the North-East, Clothe and Feed is dedicated to providing vital items to disadvantaged families.

As a baby bank, the charity distributes supplies such as baby equipment, school uniforms and nappies to directly help families living in poverty.

Now, the team at North P&I have joined forces with Clothe and Feed to gather donations for local children. At a recent donation day, the team at North came together to donate hundreds of items of clothing, toys, and much-needed items such as baby baths, car seats and prams.

Dawn Robinson, Global Director of People at North P&I, said the donation drive clearly demonstrates the compassion of the team.

She said: “We have been proud to support Clothe and Feed for several years now. As well as our recent donation day, we have provided the charity with funds to purchase a van which will help improve its day-to-day operations.

“This will make an enormous difference to Clothe and Feed – enabling them to collect and distribute even more vital items to families in need.”

Each year, North P&I selects several community initiatives to support as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) “North in the Community” programme. Clothe and Feed has been in partnership with North P&I since 2018, with North also recently donating £10,000 to the charity’s winter appeal.

This financial support will help to purchase winter coats and other necessities, with the business planning an additional collection of winter items in the coming weeks.

Rob Turnbull, Head of Fundraising at Clothe and Feed, said: “No parent should have to struggle to provide for their child. Clothe and Feed is a dedicated baby bank, helping our local communities to ensure that children in our region don’t go without.

“We’re hugely thankful to the team at North P&I for their continued support. Through the donations of essential items, to the funds that meant we could purchase a new van to reach those in our region who need us the most, it is through the dedication of businesses like North P&I that we can make a big difference to local families.”

Speaking about the importance of supporting local charities, Dawn Robinson at North P&I said: “As an international maritime insurer, based in the North-East for over 160 years, we have always been committed to our community here in Newcastle.

“As well as Clothe and Feed, our local charity partners also include St Oswald’s Hospice, Maggie’s Newcastle, Ouseburn Farm, Newcastle United Foundation, RNLI and The Baltic, among others.

“We are passionate about giving back to our community and engaging with local charities doing fantastic work in our region means that we can see the impact of our support first-hand.”

Clothe and Feed operates a number of Community Stores and donation sites across the North-East.
