USA – Soya Bean Cargoes to China
Soya bean cargoes exported from the U.S. to China are now subject to new requirements in an attempt to reduce claims at discharge.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have announced a new procedure for China bound soya bean cargoes. The USDA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) will now sample the soya bean shipments and determine if the cargo contents exceeds 1% foreign material. If it does then an additional comment will be added to the phytosanitary certificate stating “this consignment exceeds 1 percent foreign material”.
Chinese authorities have agreed this with the USDA and will not be delaying vessels based solely on the volume of foreign material in the cargo.

North has produced a loss prevention briefing on the carriage of soya bean cargoes which can be read HERE.
