United States: Changes to the Automated Manifest System
From January 2015, the US Automated Manifest System (AMS), previously used for notifying details of cargo carried on merchant vessels to the US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP), will be used only for processing electronic air manifests. Processing of electronic truck, rail and sea manifests is being transferred to the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).
The CBP states that ACE allows a faster more efficient way of controlling imports and exports into the US. ACE is the primary system used by US government agencies to process cargo and its use will be made mandatory by May 2015.
The US Customs and Border Protection Agency have produced a guide on ACE entitled ACEopedia and this can be read here.
