Nigeria’s Interior Ministry announced the closure of all land and sea borders ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections.

According to the press release from the ministry, all borders will remain closed from midnight 25 March to midnight Saturday 28 March 2015. A copy of the press release is attached to this article.

In the days leading up to the General Elections, Nigeria’s federal police chief has ordered restrictions on the movement of vehicles in towns and cities across the country between 08:00 and 17:00 local time on 28 March and on 11 April 2015.

Local P&I correspondents (West Africa Marine P&I NIGERIA) have advised that they expect all ports to close, vessels will have to wait offshore/alongside and they expect major disruption to operations from 23:59LT 27 to 08:00LT 30 March 2015.

Members with vessels operating in Nigeria are advised to keep in close contact with local port agents and P&I correspondents for the latest information.
