Heat Damaged Soya Bean Cargo ex-Santos, Brazil
North has been alerted to an issue concerning soya bean cargoes loaded in Santos, Brazil.
Soya bean cargo has been reported to be loaded in a “bin-burnt” condition, which is typical of cargo that has been stored in a silo or farm bin with the bin-burnt beans originating from the previous years’ harvest. The damaged beans are discoloured (blackish/brownish) and caked and have been found in a sub-surface layer below sound cargo intermixed with beans of normal colour.
Members should instruct their crews to be vigilant when loading soya bean cargoes and make regular inspections of the condition of the cargo that is coming on board.
