North of England P&I Association - North Hull Claims Service

CIRCULATED TO ALL MEMBERS, BROKERS AND DIRECTORS

As you are aware, Hull insurer Marine Shipping Mutual (MSMI) ceased trading on 30 June 2011 and was acquired by North of England P&I Association Limited (North) in run-off (Circular 2011/35).

When MSMI announced it would be ceasing trading, a number of its existing Members requested that the Hull and Machinery Claims Executives at North should be involved in their new insurance placings to maintain continuity. The relevant brokers and underwriters were able to accommodate this arrangement, enabling Members to continue to deal with their claims through existing channels.

North has decided that this service, known as North Hull Claims Service (NHCS), will initially be offered to former MSMI Members, although it is envisaged that it will be offered to other North Members in due course.

After nearly 40 years managing an independent Hull and Machinery facility, North has extensive experience in handling a range of H&M claims and our new service aims to retain and build upon this experience as well as providing the associated loss prevention services.

The development of NHCS is supported by North’s service ethos and financial strength. NHCS is closely monitoring market developments in the provision of claims handling services to the marine sector and currently NHCS complies with all market expected standards.
