Senior Claims Executive – Owner’s Fixed Premium

We have an opportunity to join the Coastal and Inland Sector as a Senior Claims Executive at our London or Newcastle office. In this exciting role, you’ll be responsible for handling P&I and non-P&I claims and other matters for Members and Assureds including drafting, liaising, maintaining, filing and administration, thereby supporting our strategic vision of being a world leading marine insurance group, providing the highest quality of cost-effective service.

Your main duties will include:

  • Handling a high-volume and variety of claims, including complex matters, for owners and charterers (and Assureds, as relevant) in accordance with the club’s policies and procedures; ensuring claims are resolved in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Managing relationships with Members / Assureds and brokers, ensuring they receive the highest levels of service.
  • Mentoring, supervising and managing colleagues working within the Sector, as required by functional or sector management, and taking responsibility for sharing knowledge and skills with less experienced colleagues.
  • Close collaboration with claims and underwriting colleagues working within the Sector, as well as Loss Prevention, both in terms of claims handling, identifying risk trends, and relationship management.
  • Preparing agendas, reports, and informing the Sector of any significant developments, as required by functional or Sector management.
  • Assisting with audits and peer reviews and assisting to develop and improve claims handling and operational processes, as required.
  • Working closely with sector and other colleagues, as required, to support any business development activities and networking with Members / Assureds and customers (locally and potentially overseas).
  • Supporting the Sector to build and maintain a high-performing and inclusive team environment, while collaborating with our enabling functions.
  • Acquiring and maintaining a detailed understanding of, and acting in accordance with, company-wide, functional, and sectoral rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Actively contributing to claims initiatives and Expertise Teams, as required.
  • Responding to claims and enquiries by Members / Assureds at all times.

Ideally, you’ll have:

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience of having worked in the maritime industry; knowledge & experience in dealing with P&I claims is preferable
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of all North Group systems and the ability to adapt to all developments.
  • Efficient and effective administration skills, demonstrating attention to detail

  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to cope with demanding workloads.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and assist as required.
  • Good interpersonal skills always appropriate to cultural diversity and with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexible with availability to be able to service needs of clients and geographical sector colleagues.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • LPC/ Qualified lawyer; and/or
  • Sailing experience; and/ or
  • Other relevant shipping experience
  • Relevant degree level qualification or equivalent (e.g. maritime studies/ law degree).
