Claims Assistant, Coastal & Inland

Assisting with the handling of P&I and Non-P&I matters including drafting, liaising, maintaining, filing and administration, thereby supporting our strategic vision of being a world leading marine insurance group, providing the highest quality of cost-effective service.
What will you be doing?
Key responsibilities will include:
- Handling a variety of claims, for owners (and Members, as relevant) in accordance with the club’s policies and procedures; ensuring claims are resolved in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Managing relationships with Members / Assureds and brokers, ensuring they receive the highest levels of service.
- Close collaboration with claims and underwriting colleagues working within the Sector, as well as Loss Prevention.
- Preparing agendas, reports, and informing the Sector of any significant developments, as required by functional or Sector management.
- Assisting with audits and peer reviews and assisting to develop and improve claims handling and operational processes, as required.
- Supporting the Sector to build and maintain a high-performing and inclusive team environment, while collaborating with our enabling functions.
- Acquiring and maintaining a good understanding of, and acting in accordance with, company-wide, functional, and sectoral rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Ad Hoc Duties
Your key accountabilities will include such other duties and tasks are as allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.
About you
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- Basic knowledge of shipping terms and common ship operations.
- IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office and adaptability.
- Efficient & effective administration skills, demonstrating attention to detail
- Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to cope with demanding workloads.
- Self-motivated, proactive and assist as required.
- Good interpersonal skills always appropriate to cultural diversity and with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Flexible with availability to be able to service needs of clients and geographical sector colleagues.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- Basic knowledge and experience in dealing with Claims matters.
- Basic understanding of P&I Rules.
- Legal (law degree or equivalent), technical expertise (mariner) or prior experience within the maritime industry.
