North CSR Response Team - Percy Hedley Foundation
In partnership with Eversheds LLP in Newcastle, a team of staff from North’s CSR Response Team had the opportunity to work with staff and residents at Chipchase House in Forest Hall on Give & Gain day – Friday 18 May.
Staff were involved in a range of tasks in the Horticulture Department, ranging from preparing hanging baskets and summer bedding plants, to general gardening tasks including weeding, edging, and general tidying. Not only did this provide a more pleasant and welcoming garden environment for service users, it also formed the preparatory work that will enable the centre to provide service users with opportunities to try gardening as a leisure pursuit, a therapeutic activity or as a way of learning new skills to enable them to progress to a vocational qualification. Chipchase House forms part of the Percy Hedley Foundation (www.percyhedley.org.uk) which provides services for disabled people and their families. The event also included a tour of the facilities, in order that participants could gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the fantastic work that is carried out by Percy Hedley.
