Spain: Stevedore Strike – Delays Expected *Update*

9 March 2017

Further to the advice received on 3 March, local P&I correspondents have informed the Club that the strike action scheduled for 10, 13 and 15 March has been cancelled following negotiations between employers and trade unions.

Spanish stevedores unions had called for a series of port strikes, starting from 6 March and carried out over nine alternate days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for three consecutive weeks.

The strikes are reportedly on a one hour on, one hour off basis, although full stoppages and disruption may be expected in many of the country’s main ports.

Hispania P&I Correspondents have issued a circular that explains in detail the background of this latest industrial action and this can be read by clicking here.

As negotiations are still progressing, further disruption cannot be entirely ruled out.  Members should therefore contact local port agents and/or correspondents for information on the latest developments.
