ReCAAP 1st Quarter Report for 2015
The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre has issued its Quarterly Report for piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2015.
The report confirms that the number of incidents reported during January to March 2015 has increased from a low of 29 in 2013 to 32 in 204 and a high of 38 in 2015, each in the same period.
Of the 38 reported incidents, 4 were for piracy and 34 were robberies onboard ships. The first quarter of 2015 has also seen a sharp rise of siphoning of ships’ fuel oil and an increase in the number of petty thefts in the Straits of Malacca, Singapore and at some ports and anchorages in Vietnam and Indonesia.
ReCAAP encourages all ship owners and masters to report all incidents and/or suspicious activities and to implement robust security measures when operating in high risk areas.
