North’s P&I correspondent Huatai Insurance Agency & Consultant Service Ltd has issued a Circular regarding changes to China’s Ministry of Transportation requirements.

Previously it was a requirement for vessels departing Chinese ports, or a nominated Chinese port in the case of vessels calling at multiple ports in one voyage, to dispose of all their pollutants ashore prior to departure.

However this recent Circular states that the disposal of sludge and garbage is no longer mandatory and this also includes the Bohai Sea.

North stresses that the changes to this local regulation does not affect any other requirements, or the need to adhere to MARPOL Regulations.
