Ocean Youth Trust Reception
On Wednesday 16 September 2015, the Ocean Youth Trust (OYT) held a drinks reception on board the James Cook, to say thank you to North, who have supported the Trust since 2011.
The OYT is a charitable organisation specialising in the personal development of young people and adults through ocean sailing.
The James Cook was moored on the River Tyne, just outside of North’s offices. A number of staff enjoyed a sunny evening on board with the ship’s crew, and Gillian Lowery of North presented a cheque for £450 on behalf of the North East Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers which was raised at their recent annual dinner.
Michael Asherson, Margaret Smithurst, Gillian Lowery, Catherine Doyle, Alex Hudson, Chris Bedford, Lisa Clish, Michael Easom, Wilf How, Eamon Maloney and Matthew Moore all spent some time aboard the James Cook, which for many provides a chance to leave behind the challenges they face at home. North’s involvement with the OYT has been varied, with our CSR Response team volunteers helping prepare the James Cook for service, and donations made from the North 150 Fund.
A staff team also participates in the trust’s Annual Charity Row, an 8.4 mile row from Castle Quay on Newcastle’s Quayside to South Shields Marine School’s Seamanship Centre at South Shields.
Participants in the trust’s programmes are helped to overcome fears and obstacles and to go on to shape a brighter future for themselves and their community. For more information, please visit: www.sailjamescook.com
