Tiejha Smyth

Current Role
Tiejha primarily assists European and UK members with FD&D claims and enquiries, and provides support to Directors responsible for European and UK members. She also regularly provides training and support to colleagues and Members on a range of FD&D issues, specialising in bunker quality and bunker regulatory issues. Tiejha is a key member of the North Sulphur Cap 2020 team and works closely with the P&I Pollution Enquiry Team and Loss Prevention colleagues.
She is also a member of the North Decarbonisation Enquiry Group.

External Roles
When it was active, Tiejha was a member of the BIMCO Sulphur Cap 2020 drafting committee and also worked with Intertanko on 2020 issues. Tiejha was a guest speaker at several external events on the Sulphur Cap 2020. Tiejha is a member of the Law Society of England & Wales.

Background
Tiejha studied law at the University of Sheffield and completed her post-graduate qualification in Legal Practice at Northumbria University. Tiejha qualified as a solicitor in 2004. She joined the Club's FD&D Department in November 2008 after having spent 6 years with Newcastle solicitors, Ward Hadaway, where she specialised in commercial litigation and dealt with County Court and High Court proceedings (including in the Mercantile Court, the Technology and Construction Court, the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council) and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Tiejha spent 3 years working for a utility company, primarily dealing with claims for physical damage to infrastructure. Before studying law, Tiejha filled a range of part time and summer roles in retail, offices, customer services, child care and teaching.
