RNLI Lifeguards and North P&I Club Complete King Edward’s Beach Clean
Last Thursday (16 August 2018) RNLI Lifeguards and employees from North P&I Club worked together to carry out a beach clean at King Edward’s Bay as part of the Club’s ongoing support of the charity through the North 150 Fund.
North P&I Club is a leading marine mutual liability insurer based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and to mark their 150 year anniversary in 2010 set up the North 150 Fund. The Club has since supported the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) through generous donations and last week worked with our lifeguards to clean the beach of King Edward’s Bay.
After several bags of rubbish were cleaned, the charity’s lifeguards then went on to give staff of North P&I Club a rescue demonstration and talked them through what the role of a lifeguard entails.
RNLI Area Lifesaving Manager Carl Harris said: ‘We had a fantastic morning and we are incredibly grateful for the support of North P&I Club through their 150 Fund.
‘Without such donations it would not be possible for the RNLI to do the work it does, and for that we’d like to say a massive thank you.’
North P&I Club’s Senior Executive of Communications, Kim Rogerson said: ‘North P&I Club has been proud to support the RNLI in the North East for nearly 10 years now, from funding vital training to providing lifesaving kit and equipment.
‘We had a great day at King Edward’s Bay last week as the RNLI team based there gave us a life-saving demonstration and we could see first-hand the great work that they do.’

Key facts about the RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service in the United Kingdom and Ireland from 238 lifeboat stations, including four along the River Thames and inland lifeboat stations at Loch Ness, Lough Derg, Enniskillen and Lough Ree. Additionally the RNLI has more than 1,000 lifeguards on over 240 beaches around the UK and operates a specialist flood rescue team, which can respond anywhere across the UK and Ireland when inland flooding puts lives at risk.
The RNLI relies on public donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. As a charity it is separate from, but works alongside, government-controlled and funded coastguard services. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 our lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives. Volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew. Additionally, tens of thousands of other dedicated volunteers raise funds and awareness, give safety advice, and help in our museums, shops and offices.
The RNLI is a charity registered in England and Wales (209603) and Scotland (SC037736). Charity number 20003326 in the Republic of Ireland
