North P&I Club Supports Greggs Breakfast Club Programme

North P&I has partnered with the Greggs Breakfast Club Programme, to sponsor breakfast at St Michael’s R C Primary School in Elswick for a period of two years, starting this week.  

The Greggs Breakfast Club Programme has been running since 1999 and aims to help primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Every school involved in the programme is provided with fresh bread from their nearest Greggs shop, and a grant to support start-up and ongoing costs. There are now over 485 breakfast clubs providing free breakfasts every school morning to over 31,800 children, helping them get the best out of their school day.  

Lynne Hindmarch, Breakfast Club Manager for the North and Pennines, said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with North to support the children and families at St Michael’s RC Primary. We have been running the breakfast club programme for nearly 20 years and the need is still great, we could not do this without business partners such as North who have the same underlying values to help those within our local communities and where our businesses operate.”

The partnership is part of North P&I Club’s wider charitable work which has seen the company donate to charities and local community groups through its North 150 Fund. Established in 2010 as part of the company’s 150^th anniversary celebrations, the North 150 Fund supports local charities and causes nominated by North’s employees, alongside wider reaching activity in the local community.

Paul Jennings, Chief Executive of North P&I Club, added: “It’s great to be able to support the Greggs Breakfast Club with the magnificent work that they do with young children in the North East. It’s brilliant to be able to visit the school and see the impact that our partnership with Greggs will have on the children, plus hear about their career aspirations.”

In addition to North’s staff nomination programme the organisation has also partnered with local companies to deliver a dedicated programme of activity enabling the business to extend its charitable reach.
