Cote d’Ivoire Impose Charges for Landing Stowaways
Local P&I correspondents have advised the Club that the General Director of the port of Abidjan has issued a circular in respect of stowaways.
The circular states that vessels landing stowaways in the port of Abidjan will be fined an amount of XOF2,000,000 (€3,000) for each stowaway. Additionally, if the vessel is arriving from the port of Tema the vessel must first present a “Search Certificate” issued by the Tema port authority, to the Abidjan port authority prior to admission being granted. These new requirements come into force on 1 May 2016.
