GOSH / OSCAR Update
North is an active supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital’s OSCAR (Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children’s Health and Research) campaign and the second phase of the OSCAR appeal has contributed to the life-changing research of Professor Waseem Qasim, who received a Leadership Grant from this second phase of the campaign.
Professor Waseem Qasim from GOSH, medical staff and the biotech company Celletis have completed the first use of gene-edited immune cells to treat ‘incurable’ leukaemia at GOSH. The treatment, previously only tested in the laboratory, was used in 1-year-old Layla Richards, who had relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Layla now has no trace of leukaemia in her body and is doing well.
