Gina joined the Association as an Office Assistant in May 2008. She then moved to the Underwriting Department in April 2010. She is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, preparation of documentation and liasing with Members and Brokers with regards to various aspects of cover.
Tony is a qualified solicitor who worked for ten years in private practice before joining North of England's P&I Department. He now manages the Club's Greek Office and deals with all aspects of P&I Claims.
Malcolm joined the Association in 2008. He was called to the Bar in 1981 and worked previously for the Oceanus P&I Club and Steamship Mutual P&I Club. Additionally Malcolm spent two years working for a P&I Correspondent in Piraeus.
Graham joined the Association in 1986. He has a B.Ed (Honours) and LLB (Honours) and mainly deals with cargo claims.
Matthew joined the North of England in January 2009 after a short stint with Thomas Miller. He has completed his LLB (Honours) and his Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University finishing in January 2008. Amongst other things, Matthew is responsible for maintaining and assisting with improving a number of systems which assist with the smooth running of the P&I Department on a day-to-day basis.
Paul initially served time ashore as a draftsman and then commenced a seagoing career as a dual disciplined officer with BP Shipping in 1991. His sea service spanned some twelve years sailing on mainly oil and gas tankers up to the rank of 2nd Engineer. Paul joined the Association in November 2002 primarily involved with all aspects of the Association's survey requirements and provides technical support to North Claims and FD&D Departments
Claire joined the Association in 2006 from local maritime lawyers Rayfield Mills. She is a solicitor and has an LLB (Honours) degree. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Claire was a police officer for five years. She transferred to our Greek Office in August 2010 and deals with all aspects of P&I claims.
Michael joined the Association in January 2000. He spent four years in the Association's FD&D Department before joining the claims Department. Michael is a qualified South African attorney and is also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.
Barry joined the Association in April 1999 from the Gard P&I Club in Norway. Having graduated with a law degree from Cambridge University, Barry qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and, prior to joining Gard, worked for international law firm Clifford Chance in London and in Hong Kong. As well as being admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales, he is also admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong. Barry is the Association's Representative on the BIMCO Forms of Approved Dcouments Sub-Committee and on the UK Chamber of Shipping's Documentary Committee.
Tony spent eighteen years at sea on cargo and container vessels. He joined the Association in 1999 and is head of the Risk Management Department, which co-ordinates the Association's loss prevention and condition survey services. He is a Master Mariner and has a MBA.
Iain holds a British Master Mariner's Certificate, has spent sixteen years at sea and has sailed as Master on bulk carriers. On leaving sea, Iain joined Clyde & Co in London where he was involved in "dry work". He joined the Association's Claims Department in July 1995, worked in the Hong Kong Office between 2000 and 2004 (obtaining an LLB (Honours) in 2002) and moved to Singapore at the beginning of 2007 to set up and manage the Association's Singapore Office before returning to the Newcastle Office. Iain primarily handles admiralty, pollution and cargo claims.
Katherine, a solicitor, joined the Association in 1996 and, together with Stephen Mills, has overall responsibility for the FD&D Department. Prior to joining the Association, she spent five and a half years working for London solicitors, Norton Rose, where she specialised in shipping litigation.
Formerly a Chief Engineer with Shell International, Richard joined North in 1994 and moved to Underwriting in 1998.
After obtaining a BA (Honours) Accounting & Finance, Nigel was employed as an auditor with Binder Hamlyn for four years, before joining the Association in 1991. He is responsible for the assessment of business information and statistical analysis.
Joy joined the Association in 2007 in the newly created post of Information Services Executive. She is responsible for developing and organising the Association's information and knowledge into the Knowledge Base, maintaining the Intranet and carrying out legal and business research. Before joining the Association, Joy worked in a range of information roles, most recently running the information service of a large national law firm.
Judith joined Newcastle P&I Association in October 1994, prior to which she worked for a major insurer as head of their Claims Department in Newcastle. She specialises in personal injury claims and is also jointly responsible for the Association's enhanced pre-employment medical schemes.
Matthew joined the Association in June 2011 and is responsible for developing the Club’s Offshore Business. He graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Maritime Business & Law and is qualified with a HND in Marine Engineering. He holds an Oceanmaster qualification and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Matthew previously worked as an Underwriter with the Shipowners Protection Ltd.
Nicola joined the Association in February 2000 and is responsible for monitoring expenses. Previously she was employed with Newcastle P&I Association for eleven years.
Julie joined Newcastle P&I Association in October 1991 and is responsible for supervising the day-to-day running of the Accounts Department, as well as assisting in the production of statutory and management financial information.
Rebecca joined the Association in December 2009 as Administration Assistant. Previously, Rebecca worked as Office Manager/Administrator for a care home based in Gosforth looking after the payroll, accounts and administration of the company. She has also previously worked as a PA to the MD in a locally based company.
Dawn worked at Newcastle solicitors Ingledew Botterell and joined Newcastle P&I Association in March 1989 before moving to North of England. Dawn joined the Risk Management Department in November 2009, where she provides support for both loss prevention and survey activities in the department.
Gary joined the Association in November 2003. He graduated from the Shanghai Maritime University with a BA degree in International Shipping Business in 1999. Before he went to the UK to study Maritime Law in the University of Southampton and obtained an LLM in 2002, he had two years working experience with the operating/chartering department in one of the largest shipping companies in China. Gary passed the UK Common Professional Examination in 2003.
Kenny was called to the Singapore Bar in 2005. Prior to joining the Association in 2008, he spent three years with Singapore lawyers Allen & Gledhill LLP where he specialised in shipping and admiralty litigation.
Antonia joined the Association in 2000 after having worked for many years as a Secretary and Personal Assistant both abroad and in Greece. Antonia holds a BA Degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropolgy, a major in English Literature and has a Diploma in Marine Insurance and Re-Insurance. She provides general secretarial and administrative support to the Greek Office.
Joanne, a qualified solicitor since 1996, joined the Association in 2007 from maritime solicitors Rayfield Mills and Mills & Co., where she specialised in a wide range of shipping matters, including P&I and FD&D related work. Joanne trained at Stephenson Harwood, where she also worked for one year after qualification. Joanne has a BA (Honours) degree in English and French Law and a Diplôme des Etudes Universitaires Générales in Law from the University of Bordeaux.
Simon has joined the Association in 2007. He has previously worked for two years as a claims handler in the Industrial Diseases Department at Thompsons Solicitors. Simon gained an LLB (Honours) law degree at Northumbria University and deals with personal injury and cargo claims.
Gary joined the Association in December 2009. Prior to that, he spent the previous eight years dealing with occupational disease and personal injury claims when working for local solicitors Sintons LLP and Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP. Gary is primarily handling personal injury, stowaway and crew claims.
Lisa joined the association in November 2010 after 23 years with Land Registry working in Facilities Management at their York and Durham offices. She is responsible for all office services including building maintenance, health and safety, meeting room management, post and filing and reception. Lisa studied Facilities Management at the Civil Service College in Ascot.
Steven studied law at Durham University and was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in April 2002. Prior to joining the Association in 2005, Steven spent time working for the international law firm Clifford Chance LLP in London and Brussels and spent three years practicing insurance and commercial litigation at the insurance specialist law firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.
Kim commenced work with the Association in May 1989. She is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, the preparation of documentation and liaising with Members and Brokers on various aspects of cover.
Andrew joined the Association in 1986. He studied the Hague Rules and International Trade while gaining an LLB (Honours) degree in law. He is concerned with cargo claims.
Jill joined the Association as an Office Assistant in 2005 after completing her A-Levels. In 2007 she moved into the Accounts Department as a Credit Control Assistant and is a member of the credit control team.
Dean commenced work with the Association in 2006 and is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, preparing documents and liaising with Members and Brokers with regards to various aspects of cover.
Peter has been with the Association since 1971 having joined straight from University (BA in Modern History/Politics). He has obtained an ACII (Marine). As a consultant Peter is engaged in specific tasks for the Association.
Adam has been a qualified solicitor since 2004 and has an LLB (Honours) law degree. He joined the Association in May 2008 from international law firm Eversheds LLP, where he specialised in maritime law, having previously worked for maritime law firm Rayfield Mills. Prior to that, after qualifying, he worked for a boutique personal injury law firm Marrons, specialising in industrial disease litigation. Adam works in our Claims Department dealing mainly with personal injury, stowaways, passenger and general crew claims.
Graeme commenced work with Newcastle P&I Association in 1987. He is an Underwriter evaluating and providing quotations for potential new Members and additional ships to existing fleets.
Ed graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1999 (LLB) and qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte & Touche. Ed joined North of England in February 2005 and is involved in the management of financial operations.
Alexandra joined the Association in January 2011 after having previously worked for maritime lawyers, Mills & Co, where she was involved in a wide range of both P&I and FD&D related work. Alexandra has an LLB (Honours) degree in law and qualified as a solicitor in 2008.
Neil joined Newcastle P&I Association in 1995. He primarily handles cargo claims and coordinates training matters within the P&I Department.
Prior to joining the Association Gagan sailed as a Master on Oil Tankers and was at sea for thirteen years on various types of ships including bulk carriers, oil/ore carriers and tankers (ranging from ULCC's to Aframax). Gagan first went to sea as a Navigating Cadet with Denholms in 1997. Gagan has experience of STS transfer operations, SBM mooring operations, cargo comingling/ blending operations, yard deliveries and dry docking. He joined the Association in 2010 and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
Lesley joined the FD&D Department in May 1998 from London lawyers, Field Fisher Waterhouse. She has a BA (Honours) degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and qualified as a solicitor in 1993.
Catherine is a solicitor who previously worked for Newcastle based law firm Sintons LLP, where she was responsible for both contentious and non contentious commercial work. Catherine graduated from Northumbria University with a BA Honours degree in English, before going on to complete the Common Professional Examination in Law and Legal Practice Course. She joined the Association in 2009 and is primarily responsible for handling cargo claims.
Lucy joined the Association in 1999 and has been a member of the Claims Department since 2002. Lucy deals specifically with personal injury, stowaways, general crew and passenger claims, and also is jointly responsible for the Association's enhanced pre-employment medical schemes. In 2007 Lucy obtained an LLB (Honours) law degree from Northumbria University.
Adrian joined the Association in 1999 from maritime lawyers Rayfield Mills having previously worked in Eversheds' Shipping Department. Adrian became a Manager in 2003. He is involved in all types of claims and has particular responsibility for overseeing the claims of charterer Members. Adrian is also a member of North's Offshore Team dealing with specialist and offshore operations.
Sean, a qualified solicitor since 2001, joined the Association in January 2007. He previously worked for maritime solicitors Mills & Co from 2000, where he specialised in a wide range of shipping matters, including P&I and FD&D related work. Prior to that he worked for South African maritime lawyers Dawson & Associates from 1997 after being admitted as an attorney and obtaining a Masters degree in shipping law in South Africa in 1996. Sean deals primarily with cargo claims.
Sanchit first went to sea as a Navigating Cadet in 1997. He has served on various types of ships including container ships, oil tankers and LPG tankers. He has experience in ship to ship cargo transfer operations on oil tankers and LPG tankers. Sanchit is a qualified Master Mariner and has completed the Association's Distance Learning Course in P&I Insurance and Loss Prevention. After working in the Claims Department for over a year, Sanchit joined the Underwriting Department in March 2009.
Rune is a qualified Norwegian attorney who joined the FD&D Department in January 2000 after spending more than seven years with the Claims Department of the Gard P&I Club in Norway. Rune is still an attorney in the FD&D team, but works primarily for the Claims Department as a Senior Executive. Rune graduated from the University of Oslo in 1990 and he holds a further degree from the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law.
Rodney joined the Association in 1973 and served as Joint Managing Director with Peter Crichton from 1988 to 2006 and then sole Managing Director until 2009. As a consultant, Rodney is now responsible for specific projects within the company. Rodney achieved an ACII (Marine) and prior to joining the Association, served with the Merchant Navy for four years as a cadet and later as Junior Navigating Officer.
Phillip joined the Association in 2006. Before joining, he worked as an insurance broker for Willis Limited (Edinburgh). Phillip has a BA (Honours) degree in Business with Information Management and has achieved his ACII qualification. Phillip moved to the Greek Office in 2008 gaining knowledge of the Greek market before returning to the UK in 2010 when he joined the Underwriting Department as an Underwriter.
Elizabeth joined North of England in May 2007. Prior to joining the Association, she was working for Space Imaging Inc, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. Her current responsibilities include all matters in the Singapore Office which relate to secretarial and office administration.
Frances joined the Association in 2006. Prior to this, she worked for Norton Rose in Greece as a Personal Assistant to Senior Management. Frances graduated from College with a Distinction in Business & Commerce and spent her early working years working in Travel and Tourism as a Customer Complaints Officer. Her main role is to provide general secretarial and administrative support to the Greek Office. Frances is a competent Greek speaker.
Graham, a Chartered Management Accountant, joined the Association in September 2010 to assist in the Club's financial and business modelling, capital adequacy and risk management. Prior to joining the Association, Graham spent eight years working for Equitas Limited and more recently rpmi, the railways pension administrator.
Paul joined the Association in September 2008. Before that he worked in the London Insurance market for Lloyds, an ILU Company and Lloyd's brokers. In 1980 he joined the Standard Club. During his twenty-eight years there, he worked with Swiss, South American and North African Members, until going to Greece in 1996 to open the P&I Office for Standard which he ran until March 2006.
Richard obtained an MSc in Computing Science from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1993 and joined the Association in 1996. Richard is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Association's computer systems.
Tricia joined the Association in August 1992 after working for a firm of Newcastle solicitors. She gained an LLB (Honours) degree in law at Lancaster University and is primarily concerned with cargo claims.
Tony joined the Association in 1985 and handled personal injury, fines, fixed and floating objects and pollution cases, until 2004 when he moved to become primarily involved with our former sister company MSMI dealing with hull & machinery claims. He is now involved in the run off of MSMI claims.
Iain is a qualified solicitor having joined the Association in November 2005 from Eversheds, where he handled a wide range of maritime matters including admiralty, P&I and FD&D related work. Prior to qualifying as a lawyer, Iain spent eleven years as a police officer and prior to that five years at sea as a deck officer serving on container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers. Iain primarily handles admiralty, pollution, cargo and hull & machinery claims.
Colin joined the Association's Risk Management Department in November 2006 and is involved in all aspects of the Association's Survey and Loss Prevention activities.

Ian obtained an LLB (Euro) degree from Exeter University and qualified as a solicitor with Clyde & Co in 1998. He remained with Clyde & Co for several years specialising in marine law. He left the Dubai Office of Clyde & Co in March 2006 to join the Association. Ian is currently based in the Association's Greek Office.
Ken joined the Association in September 1988 after having previously been with average adjusters Richards Hogg in Glasgow for some thirteen years. He was primarily involved with our former sister company MSMI, dealing with hull & machinery matters and is now involved in the run off of MSMI claims. Ken also handles claims in respect of fixed and floating objects, and admiralty matters for the Association.
Rebecca joined the Association in May 2011 as HR Executive supporting the Association with their Human Resource Management needs. Rebecca is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management. Prior to joining the Association Rebecca worked for a number of public sector organisations most recently as HR Manager for the North East Ambulance Service.
Ashleigh joined the Association in April 2004 as an office assistant. In 2005 she was promoted to secretary for the Underwriting Department, where she worked for four years. In September 2009, Ashleigh became an underwriting assistant. In July 2011 Ashliegh was promoted to Underwriting Executive. She is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, preparation of documentation and liaising with Members and Brokers with regards to various aspects of cover.
David spent eleven years with Denholm Ship Management on a variety of vessels, but mainly bulk carriers. He holds a Class 2 Deck Certificate and a BSc in Nautical Studies. He joined Newcastle P&I Association in 1994 working in the Claims Department. David moved to the Risk Management Department in 1998. He has special responsibility for condition surveys and deals with classification society and Port State Control issues.
Kim joined the Association in August 2010 in the newly created post of Corporate Communications Executive. She is responsible for developing the Association's corporate identity, through the co-ordination of both internal and external communications. Kim is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
Darren joined the Association in February 2007 having previously worked for six years at British Telecom in a consultancy/implementation role. At BT he worked with clients such as the NHS, the DWP and the City of Edinburgh Council. More recently he worked at the Leighton Group developing websites for Newcastle Airport, Sunderland Housing Group and Huntsman Petrochemicals amongst others.
Ian joined the Association in 1988 and is responsible for P&I claims management. A Master Mariner, he spent thirteen years at sea and then after gaining a BSc Nautical Studies, spent six years with Holman, Fenwick and Willian. Since joining the Association, Ian has obtained his LLB and opened and managed our office in Hong Kong between 1995 and 1997.
Gary joined the Association in 2007 after previously working in the insurance department of the Automobile Association for four years. After four years as Underwriting Executive, Gary was promoted to Assistant Underwriter in July 2011.
Helen joined the Association in 2003. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, has a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources within the Association.
Robin commenced work with the Association in July 1991. He is primarily involved with the supervision of the Underwriting Department as well as providing assistance to the Underwriters, liaising with Members and Brokers on various aspects of cover and documentation required. Robin's main geographical account areas are Middle East and India.
Amy joined North of England in March 2001 after living in Toronto for seven years. She is secretary to Alan Lo. Amy's responsibilities are giving secretarial and administrative assistance to all her colleagues in the Hong Kong Office.
Sam joined the Underwriting Department in August 2010. His primary role is to issue documentation to Members and Brokers, and to assist the Underwriters and Underwriting Executives.
Mike joined the FD&D Department in July 1999. Prior to joining the Association, Mike was a partner with the Houston maritime law firm Eastham, Watson, Dale & Forney. He was called to the Bar of the State of Texas in 1987, and is also admitted to practice law in The District of Columbia and Maine.
John joined the Association in 1989 having spent fourteen years at sea with Cunard, obtaining his Master Mariner's certificate in 1987. John handled a variety of P&I claims prior to joining the Underwriting Department in 1992 and has achieved an ACII and BA (Honours) in Insurance Management. John has been NIML Director since 2002.
Denise joined the Association in May 1989. She provides support for both loss prevention and survey activities in the Risk Management Department. In particular, Denise administers the Distance Learning Course, annual Residential Training Course and In-Office Training Course offered by the Association.
Michael studied accounting and law in Sydney and is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the High Court of Australia, England and Wales and is a Notary Public (Sydney). Michael joined the Association in January 2009 after working with a large Australian law firm as a Senior Associate in commercial litigation. Michael is currently based in the Association's Singapore Office.
Julie has been with the Association for over thirty years. She is responsible for the production and organisation of all Board Meetings and Agenda papers as well as for internal management meetings. Julie also looks after the diary management and administrative requirements of Alan Wilson and Paul Jennings and liaises with other departments, Board Members and Representatives of external bodies on their behalf.
Paul joined the Association in 1984 and is responsible for all aspects of the Association. Paul has been involved in the P&I industry for over twenty-five years since obtaining his LLB.
Thya joined the Association in 1996 and is responsible for underwriting management. Thya was called to the English Bar in 1991 and to the Singapore Bar in 1993. Prior to joining the Association's FD&D Department in 1996, he practised for three years with Singapore lawyers Drew & Napier, specialising in shipping and admiralty law. Thya moved to the Underwriting Department in 2001.
Andrew spent fourteen years at sea on cargo and container ships. He is a qualified Master Mariner, chartered shipbroker and has an LLM. He joined the Association in March 2005 and is involved with many aspects of the Risk Management Department.
James joined North of England in 2011. Prior to joining North of England James gained experience practicing as a commercial litigation solicitor in a leading North East law firm.
Maria graduated from the University of Birmingham with an LLB (Honours) degree. In 1990 she was called to the Bar and following pupillage in chambers in Newcastle, Maria spent several years handling P&I and FD&D claims for the Standard Club. She then joined North of England and specialised in personal injury claims. Maria rejoined the Association in 2008 after a career break to raise her family and is now assisting part-time on personal injury and crew matters.
Dev first went to sea as a Navigating Cadet in 1983. After qualifying as Master Mariner and gaining a degree in Education and Training, he became Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Nautical Science at South Tyneside College for ten years. In 2002 Dev gained command and served as Master aboard Irish Ships, trading in Europe and the Mediterranean. He has been an External Examiner with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency for Masters level Ship Stability and was involved with Pilotage and VTS training on full mission bridge simulators.
Following her call to the Bar in 1983, Karen obtained a postgraduate degree in maritime law and then joined the West of England P&I Club and international law firms Ince & Co and Clyde & Co, prior to joining the Association in 2007. Karen was also a Senior Lecturer in maritime law at Southampton University and Cardiff University.
Adele joined the Association in 1998 having completed an NVQ in Business Administration and Business Technology. Adele spent ten years within the Risk Management Department where she was responsible for both loss prevention and survey activities; one of her primary concerns was the administration and organisation of the Association's annual Residential Training Course. In January 2010 she joined the cargo team within the Claims Department having completed a LLB (Honours) law degree at Northumbria University.
Emma joined the P&I Claims Department of Newcastle P&I Association in 1994 and moved to North of England in 1997. She obtained an LLB (Honours) law degree in 2004 and then spent two years working in the Association's Hong Kong Office, she then transferred to the Association's Piraeus Office for one year. Emma rejoined the UK Office Underwriting Department as an Underwriter in October 2007.
Andrew graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1992 and joined the Association in 1998 after having previously been employed as an IT Training Officer with C.I.A. Training Ltd. Andrew is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Association's computer systems.
Amanda graduated in 1997 from Liverpool John Moores University with a BSc (Honours) in Maritime Studies. After working at Liverpool & London, she joined the Association in 2000 and is primarily responsible for handling cargo claims.
Ed obtained a BA (Honours) in Economics & Accounting from Newcastle University in 1981. He worked as an auditor with KMG Thomson McLintock and as an accountant for a publishing company before joining the Association in September 1990. He is responsible for a wide range of administrative matters.
Alan joined the Association in 1995 and became General Manager of the Hong Kong Office in 1997 as well as General Manager Asia Pacific in 2007, following the opening of the Singapore Office. Alan has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and prior to joining the Association, worked for shipowners in both London and Hong Kong.
Alvin joined the Association in September 2009 from Skuld P&I Club at its Singapore Office. Prior to that, Alvin was a partner at the Singapore law firm Rajah & Tann LLP where he largely worked on casualties, maritime charterparty and trade disputes.
Gillian joined the association in June 2011, having worked for a major container carrier in Liverpool for nine years. Gillian holds a BSc in Maritime Business Management and MSc in Maritime Operations from Liverpool John Moores University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Gillian is involved with cargo claims.
Before joining the Association in 2008, Steven provided IT support for a number of companies including EDS, Bull Integris and HP/Compaq. Steven is responsible for first and second line IT support.
Rod joined the Association in January 2011 and is involved in all aspects of the Association’s loss prevention and survey activities. Rod is a Master Mariner whose previous experience has been gained with Shell Ship Management, most recently on LNG vessels and multi grade product carriers. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Maths from Aberdeen University.
Simon spent thirteen years at sea on a variety of vessels where he reached the rank of Chief Officer. His last ten years were spent onboard anchor handlers, and onshore in the training centre of a large ship operator. He joined the Association's Risk Management Department in September 2008 and is involved with many aspects of the Risk Management Department.
Lesley commenced work with the Association in August 2007, after completing A-Levels. She is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, the preparation of documentation and liaising with Members and Brokers on various aspects of cover.
Before joining the Association in September 2005 Brian spent five years at sea, where he worked as a navigational deck officer on various ship types. Since coming ashore, he has also gained a BSc (Honours) Marine Operations from Northumbria University and an MSc Marine Transport with Management from Newcastle University. Brian is currently based in the Association's Singapore Office.
After qualifying as a solicitor in 1991, Joanna worked with London solicitors Middleton Potts specialising in shipping litigation, before joining the Association in January 1999. Joanna obtained a BA (Honours) Classics degree from London University and also speaks Italian. Joanna is currently based in the Association's Singapore Office.
Savraj joined the Association in 1995 and has overall responsibility for the Underwriting Department. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and The Nautical Institute. Prior to joining the Association, he spent twelve years at sea, sailing as Master for four years, before coming ashore to work with shipowners as Marine Superintendent and Operations Manager. He obtained his LLB in 1998.
Stephen joined the Association in 2007 and, together with Katherine Birchall, has overall responsibility for the FD&D Department. He has specialised in shipping and international trade since qualifying as a solicitor in 1980, was a founding partner of law firm Rayfield Mills in 1993 and is author of the Association's guides on Bills of Lading and Letters of Indemnity. Stephen is an experienced mediator.
Eamon joined the Association from Eversheds, where he was Partner & Head of Admiralty Law, specialising in marine casualties and pollution. Before qualifying as a lawyer he spent ten years in the Royal Navy, with worldwide service as the navigation officer of minesweepers, frigates and destroyers. Eamon was named 'Shipping Lawyer of the Year' at the International Lloyd's List Awards of 2005.
James experienced life at sea working aboard small dry bulk carriers before graduating from the University of Liverpool with a BSc (Honours) degree in Marine Biology. He has since obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law from London Metropolitan University. He joined the Association in February 2003 and worked in the Hong Kong Office from August 2006 to September 2009 before relocating to the Singapore Office. He now manages the Singapore Office and deals with all types of P&I Claims.
Kelly joined the Association in August 2008 upon completion of high school. Kelly provides administrative support for loss prevention and survey activities in the Risk Management Department.
Claire qualified as a Solicitor in 2008. Since qualification she has specialised in Commercial Litigation involving high value, complex disputes with an international element. Claire joined the Association’s FD&D department in 2011.
After completing her Cadetship with Maersk Shipping in 2006, Sam served as Deck Officer onboard their product and chemical tankers trading world-wide until 2009. Returning to university, Sam obtained a BSc (Hons) in Maritime Business & Management from Liverpool John Moores University completed in 2010. She joined the Association in 2011.
Paul joined the Association in November 2005 after eight years working in the Insurance Department of the Automobile Association. His main role is providing assistance to the Underwriters, preparing documents and liaising with Members and Brokers with regards to their cover. The geographical area Paul is responsible for is the Far East although he also deals with several Cuban Members.
Chris qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and specialises in company and commercial law. He joined North in February 2011 and acts as an internal legal adviser to the North Board, Management Team and North colleagues.
Jeff, a Chartered Accountant, joined the Association in 1993 and is responsible for the financial operations of the Association including accounting, IT, treasury, regulation, credit control and investments.
Stephen has over twenty years experience in P&I cargo, admiralty and personal injury claims, and joined North of England in July 2005 from the American Club.
Julie has over seventeen years experience of P&I claims after joining Newcastle P&I in 1994, and gaining an LLB (Honours) law degree from Northumbria University in 2003. She manages all aspects of P&I claims but with particular focus on cargo and personal injury claims.
Graham qualified as a solicitor in Australia and then in England, and became a litigation partner in the London shipping law firm of Constant & Constant, dealing with a wide variety of shipping and trade disputes in the Commercial Court and in arbitration. Graham joined the Association in 1998.
Marija has a law degree from the University of Zagreb, Croatia and in May 2004 she obtained an LLM degree from the International Maritime Law Institute in Malta. In December 2006 she also completed nautical studies at the Maritime Faculty in Rijeka, Croatia. Marija joined the Association in 2004 and relocated to the Hong Kong Office in June 2008.
Paul graduated from the University of Northumbria in 1994 with a 2:1 in Business Computing. He is a certified Prince2 Practitioner and a Member of the Institute of Analysts and Programmers. Paul has worked in all aspects of corporate computer systems design and development for, among others, Defra, Wellstream North Sea, The Eye Clinic/Optical Express and the NHS.
Lucy is a qualified solicitor and joined the Association in August 2008 from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors. She qualified in 2005 and has practiced in the field of civil litigation/personal injury since 2000. Lucy is primarily concerned with personal injury and cargo matters.
Maria is a Greek qualified lawyer who joined the Association in 2007 after spending nearly four years with Newcastle maritime lawyers Rayfield Mills. She has an LLM degree (Essex University) in International Trade Law and she is also registered as a European lawyer in England. Maria is primarily concerned with cargo claims.
Stavros joined the Association at the beginning of 2010, having gained a wealth of experience working for large shipping companies and law firms over the past ten years. He has a special interest in the electronic form of bills of lading and documentary credits. Stavros is mostly concerned with cargo claims.
Glenn spent eighteen years at sea serving as a marine engineer on a variety of vessels including dredgers, supply vessels in the North Sea, bunker supply vessels and dry cargo vessels. He spent the last twelve years working for an oil major on product tankers, the last four years as Chief Engineer. Glenn joined the Association in December 2009.
David joined the Association in July 2004. Previously he worked for twenty-two years in general insurance with Norwich Union, the last eight years in their Personal Injury Department. He specialises in personal injury, stowaway, general passenger and crew claims.
Steve joined the Association in 1997, initially working in the Claims Department before joining the Underwriting Department in 2004. In addition to his general underwriting role, he has particular responsibility for the War Risks Class. Steve holds a law degree, and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Michelle graduated from the University of Bristol, having studied law, and qualified as a solicitor in September 2003. She joined the Association in March 2008, having previously worked for Newcastle based law firm Dickinson Dees LLP and then Tilly Bailey & Irvine LLP, in their Commercial Litigation Departments.
Ben qualified as a solicitor in 2002. He joined the Association in June 2007 having spent five years with local maritime lawyers Rayfield Mills.
Gordon joined the Association in June 2009 and has degrees in naval architecture and ocean engineering from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde. He completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law and trained as a solicitor in London with Shaw and Croft, latterly HBJ Gateley Wareing. Gordon is currently based in the Association's Greek Office.
Mark qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and has specialised in FD&D claims ever since. After five years with Newcastle solicitors Ingledew Botterell (now Eversheds) he joined Newcastle P&I Association in 1989.
Jackie joined the Association in 1984 and has worked within the Accounts Department for more than twenty-five years. Jackie is responsible for liaising with Members and Brokers to collect funds due and to answer any resulting queries.
Abbie joined the Association in 1998 after having gained a BSc (Honours) degree in Sociology and Psychology. Having spent eight years within the Services Department co-ordinating a number of the Association's publications, in February 2008 she joined the personal injury team, specialising in personal injury, stowaways, general crew and passenger claims.
Mike, a solicitor, joined the Association in 1992 and is responsible for P&I claims management. Mike opened and managed our office in Greece between 2000 and 2003. Prior to joining the Association, Mike was an officer in the Royal Air Force and then pursued his legal career with London solicitors Norton Rose. Mike represents North on the International Group's Maritime Security and Sanctions Sub-Committees.
Anna joined the Association in 2000 when the Greek Office opened after having previously been with Marlin Agencies (Club's P&I Correspondents in Greece) for four years. She is fluent in English and qualified in accountancy. She is responsible for a wide range of administrative and personnel matters. In addition, she organises Member events and training seminars.
Stephen joined the Association in January 2010, returning from the Middle East, where he had spent five years as a Marine Pilot. Stephen holds a Class 1 foreign going certificate of competency after starting his sea career in 1989. He has sailed in all deck officer ranks aboard LNG, LPG, Crude and product tankers, with the final two years sea service spent specialising in dynamic positioning tankers. He has also been a certified OCIMF/SIRE approved inspector and cargo expeditor for an oil major.
Peter obtained a degree in Commerce and Administration and worked in a port agency for nine years. He then switched career to maritime law by gaining an LLM in Maritime Law from the University of Wales, Cardiff and qualifying as a solicitor with Clyde & Co in 1993. He joined the Association in 1998 after five years with Ocean Marine Mutual.
Ben joined the Association in July 2011 from IMC Industrial Group where he handled both contentious and non-contentious shipping matters. Prior to that, Ben was a Senior Associate at the Singapore law firm of Rajah & Tann LLP where he specialised in shipping and admiralty litigation.
Sachin is a Master Mariner with fifteen years of sailing experience, including two years in command. He sailed on various ship types such as bulk carriers, container vessels, oil tankers and LNG vessels. He joined the Association in June 2008 and has also completed the Qualifying Examinations of "The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers". Sachin handles admiralty, cargo and pollution claims.
Iris joined the Association in September 2000. Prior to joining the Association, she worked in a recovery agent's office and with a large ship owner in Hong Kong dealing with cargo recoveries and cargo claims respectively. She obtained an LLB (Honours) and an LLM in Law from the University of London.
Andrea joined the FD&D Department in August 1997 from Cameron McKenna, a firm of solicitors in London. She has an LLB (Honours) in English and French law from the University of Essex and a Diplôme Des Etudes Juridiques Françaises from the University of Strasbourg, France.
Tiejha qualified as a solicitor in 2004. She joined the Association's FD&D Department in November 2008 after having spent six years with Newcastle solicitors, Ward Hadaway, where she specialised in commercial litigation and dealt with High Court proceedings, including the Mercantile Court, the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Tiejha spent three years working at Northern Electric Distribution Limited dealing with claims brought by other utilities for damage to their equipment.
Gillian obtained a law degree with First Class honours from Westminster University before going on to complete her solicitor's training at London City law firm Addleshaw Goddard where she qualified in 2003. Gillian practised as a commercial litigator at Addleshaw Goddard specialising in resolving high value complex disputes and is experienced in all forms of commercial dispute resolution including mediation, arbitration proceedings and English High Court proceedings. Gillian joined the Association in March 2009 as a member of the FD&D Department and relocated to the Greek Office in May 2010. Gillian also speaks Greek.
Mari joined the Association in 1998, and has been a member of the survey team since November 2000. She provides support for both survey and loss prevention activities in the Risk Management Department, with particular responsibility for the monitoring and provision of data.
Before joining the Association in 2007 Andrew worked at WK Webster & Co Ltd, as a Senior Claims Executive in the cargo casualty management department dealing primarily with salvage and general average claims. Andrew has many years of P&I Cargo and Admiralty claims handling experience obtained working with British Marine, Ocean Marine Mutual and Steamship Mutual.
Andrew joined the Association in 1983 and has overall responsibility for the P&I Claims Department. He has obtained an LLB and prior to joining the Association, spent two and a half years with offshore operator Seaforth Marine where he was responsible for marine claims and insurance.
Lyndsey joined the Association in November 2008, after previously working for IBM and Zurich Financial Services as an Insurance Advisor. Her main role is providing assistance to the Underwriters, preparing documents and liaising with Members and Brokers with regards to various aspects of cover.
Nick joined the Association in 1984 following one and a half year's Post Graduate research at the University of Leeds. In 1995, Nick was given special responsibility for services to Members including the co-ordination of activities involving correspondents. Nick is the Association's Representative on the International Group Representation Sub-Committee.
Colin joined the Association in 1995 and is responsible for P&I claims management. A Master Mariner, Colin spent ten years at sea with P&O. After coming ashore he lectured at South Tyneside College and worked with law firms Eversheds and Rayfield Mills. Colin is North's Representative on the International Group's Pollution and Compulsory Insurance Sub-Committees.
Paul graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a BBA degree. He joined the Association in 1996, after having previously worked with shipowning companies' claims/operations departments and P&I Clubs' Correspondents in Hong Kong for seventeen years. He was elected a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in 1984.
Robert joined Newcastle P&I Association in 1987. Previously he spent nine years at sea with BP and Ben Line. He holds a Class 2 Deck Certificate and a BSc in Maritime Studies. Before joining Newcastle P&I he spent three years with another P&I Club and three years with a firm of London solicitors doing mainly collision and salvage work. He deals with admiralty and cargo claims.
Belinda joined the Association in 1990 after studying Economics and Accounting at Newcastle University and also has obtained an LLB (Honours) from Northumbria University. Belinda is primarily concerned with cargo and personal injury matters.
Jane commenced work with the Association in January 1991. She is primarily involved in the supervision of the Department as well as providing assistance to the Underwriters, liaising with Members and Brokers on various aspects of cover and documentation required. Her main geographical areas of responsibility are Europe and Scandinavia.
Paul obtained a First Class LLB (Honours) degree from Manchester University. Paul joined the FD&D Department in August 1997.
Neil joined the Association in June 2008 after gaining nearly twenty years experience in handling a wide range of claims at Steamship Mutual where he was a Syndicate Associate. Neil is primarily concerned with cargo and pollution claims.
John joined the Association in 2007 after spending four years with a local firm of solicitors specialising in long tail disease claims. Prior to that, he worked for the insurance company Aviva for seven years, specialising in personal injury claims. John is primarily handling personal injury, stowaway, general passenger and crew claims.
Sarah joined the Association in March 1988 and worked in the Accounts Department for twelve months prior to moving into the Underwriting Department where she dedicated twenty years to working alongside Underwriters, supervising the team and assisting Members and Brokers with all aspects of documentation. In April 2009 Sarah returned to the Accounts Department as a Reinsurance Executive.
Mark joined the Association in January 2001 after having previously worked as an IT/AutoCAD Trainer. Mark is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Association's computer systems.
Simon joined the Association after gaining several years experience in the Claims Department of Liverpool & London. In March 2006 Simon moved to the Underwriting Department. Simon previously worked as a Claims Executive with Steamship Mutual for eight years having graduated with an Honours degree.
Karen joined the Association in September 1997 after graduating from the University of Northumbria with an LLB (Honours) law degree and a post graduate diploma in July 1997. She deals with personal injury, stowaways and general passenger and crew claims and is the North of England Representative on the International Group Personal Injury Sub-Committee.
Alan, a Chartered Accountant, joined the Association in 1981 and is responsible for all aspects of the Association.
Kate joined the Association in 2009 after completing a BA (Honours) in Business Management at Northumbria University. She is primarily involved in providing general assistance to Underwriters, preparation of documentation and liaising with Members and Brokers with regards to various aspects of cover.
Fiona joined the Association in April 1999 and is involved with a wide range of administrative and personnel matters.
John joined Newcastle P&I Association in 1986 after graduating with an Honours degree in law. He worked in the Claims Department dealing with a wide variety of claims and is now primarily concerned with cargo and admiralty work.
Henry joined the Association in 2000 from Liverpool & London P&I. Previously he served with the Corporation of Lloyd's and had a number of years prior P&I claims experience with Steamship Mutual.
Antigone is an attorney who joined the Association in 2003 and relocated to the Greek Office in May 2004. Prior to joining the Association, Antigone practiced law with New York maritime law firm Lyons, Skoufalos, Proios & Flood and also worked as a tax and commercial attorney with HSBC in New York. Antigone is a Member of both the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations.
Helen trained and qualified as a solicitor with City shipping lawyers, Holman Fenwick & Willan, where she spent almost four years. She then gained a year's Commercial Dispute Resolution experience at Hammonds, an international commercial law firm. Helen joined the Association in August 2002 and relocated to the Greek Office in March 2003. Helen speaks fluent Greek and Spanish.
Thomas is a qualified PRC Lawyer and Master Mariner who joined the Association in June 2007 after spending more than ten years on board container vessels and five years in a maritime law firm in Shanghai, China. He obtained a BSC in Navigation and an LLM in Maritime Law from the Shanghai Maritime University.
