North - Community Involvement

Community Involvement

North is committed to its communities where our people live and work and over the past year we have fostered relationships with not-for-profit organisations through the donation of funds from our 150 Year Fund.

In addition, North works closely with the Community Foundation in the North East who manages donations on our behalf. North also supports a number of charitable organisations in the region such as BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Trinity House.

Our CSR ethic is not limited to charitable donations alone. We also encourage engagement with local communities and charitable initiatives through the interaction and involvement of our staff - leveraging the skills and experience of our people. Our North CSR Response Team consists of a group of staff from North who have volunteered to give their time and skills to assist with worthy regional charitable initiatives and projects.

We would like to hear from you if you have any suggestions on projects or initiatives which the CSR Response Team might be able to assist with. Please contact us through CharityCommittee@nepia.com.

North 150 Fund

North marked its 150th anniversary in 2010 by establishing a charitable fund - North 150 Fund. We are extremely grateful for the very generous donations we received from shipowners, maritime brokers, maritime lawyers and our correspondents around the world, as well as from staff - a dedicated group of whom also organised a 150 miles sponsored bike ride along the Hadrian's Cycleway.

Together we raised over US$85,000 (£53,000), following which the main board directors agreed to top up the balance to US$150,000 (£93,600) for our nominated charities:

Our staff are dedicated to fundraising initiatives both in-house, locally and within the wider shipping market and therefore the North 150 Fund will be topped up and used to support our initiatives going forward.  In addition to our nominated charities listed above, North works closely with the Community Foundation who manages bids on our behalf for local projects in the North East.
