International Group Qualification

IG LogoWe are committed to helping our employees reach their potential and we recognise that training plays a big role in this. We offer access to an industry-standard qualification to all our people, all funded by us.

The International Group Qualification (IGQ)

The 13 International Group of P&I Clubs (IG) provide liability cover for approximately 90% of the world's ocean-going tonnage. North is a leading member of the IG with 11.5% of the IG's owned tonnage.

Developed in 2007, the IGQ is North’s preferred qualification particularly for those in a Member-facing role. Designed as a standalone programme the IGQ is recognised by all P&I Clubs in the International Group and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Insurers (CII). The qualification provides an opportunity for people to develop their knowledge in all aspects of the P&I and marine insurance field.

Although the IGQ is a stand-alone qualification, the modules that contribute to the qualification have each been awarded a number of credits by the CII which can be combined with core modules from the CII curriculum to achieve the CII Certificate of Insurance, CII Diploma or ACII Advanced Diploma.

Advantages of the IGQ

  • The course is structured to allow you to study at your own pace.
  • Course materials are accessible to all our people without any obligation to sign up for the exams.
  • There is flexibility in how you can complete the course – after modules one and two, you can choose what to study next and when.
  • North has a support network of mentors to help you at each step of the way and for UK employees, exams are held on site at our Newcastle head office.
